If you could travel in a Time Machine would you go back to the past or into the future?
Definitely the past, specifically the ’40s or ’50s

If you were stranded on a desert island what 3 things would you want with you?
My two sons and husband, without a doubt. Good thing we didn’t have another child!

What is one book everyone should read?
The Book Thief by Markus Zusak

What is your favorite flavor of ice cream?
Pistachio

What is your favorite thing to eat for breakfast?
Malt-o-Meal (yes, someone under the age of 80 still actually eats the stuff!)

One food you would never eat?
Sea urchin — just look at the stuff and you’ll understand why

Favorite cartoon?
Ooh, I’d have to say either Shrek or Polar Express

What is your favorite sport to watch on TV?
Curling! I’m kidding…just had to say it. Honestly, I’m baffled by how that qualifies as an Olympic sport.

What is your favorite book that has been made into a movie?
Water for Elephants — I can’t wait to see the film when it releases in April.

Please tell us in one sentence only, why we should read your book.
Aside from the fact you’d be helping send my children to college (LOL), I would love to share my labor-of-love story with all of you and hopefully spur both laughter and tears while touching your heart.

What was your favorite book when you were a child/teen?
The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein

Is there a song you could list as the theme song for your book or any of your characters?
That’s an easy one: “Letters from Home” by John Michael Montgomery. 🙂

What is your favorite quote?
“Just because you can doesn’t mean you should.”

Letters From Home:

In the midst of World War II, a Midwestern infantryman falls deeply in love through a yearlong letter exchange, unaware that the girl he’s been writing to is not the one replying.

Chicago, 1944. Liz Stephens has little interest in attending a USO club dance with her friends Betty and Julia. She doesn’t need a flirtation with a lonely serviceman when she’s set to marry her childhood sweetheart. Yet something happens the moment Liz glimpses Morgan McClain.
They share only a brief conversation—cut short by the soldier’s evident interest in Betty—but Liz can’t forget him. Thus, when Betty asks her to ghostwrite a letter to Morgan, stationed overseas, Liz reluctantly agrees.

Thousands of miles away, Morgan struggles to adjust to the brutality of war. His letters from “Betty” are a comfort, their soul-baring correspondence a revelation to them both. While Liz is torn by her feelings for a man who doesn’t know her true identity, Betty and Julia each become immersed in their own romantic entanglements. And as the war draws to a close, all three will face heart-wrenching choices, painful losses, and the bittersweet joy of new beginnings.

Beautifully rendered and deeply touching, LETTERS FROM HOME is a story of hope and connection, of sacrifices made in love and war—and the chance encounters that change us forever.
