What is your favorite flavor of ice cream?
I absolutely love ginger ice cream. Yum! 😛

One food you would never eat?
Ugh, meat. I’m a vegetarian.

Please tell us in one sentence only, why we should read your book.
Spirit Storm is an exciting paranormal adventure filled with thrilling mystery, heart pounding suspense, loyal friends, and the joy and pain of young love.

What inspired you to want to become a writer?
I grew up in a family of prolific storytellers and my childhood was steeped in tales of supernatural horror and suspense. I was raised on stories of faeries and goblins and really did believe there were bloodthirsty monsters hiding in the shadows. The myths of my childhood opened my mind to the possibility of magic in our everyday waking world. This belief in magic and monsters, and my massive childhood Edgar Allan Poe obsession, inspired much of my earlier writing and led to a love of paranormal literature.

What is your dream cast for your book?
The Spirit Guide series would make a fabulous TV series or collection of movies.
I would love to see Jodelle Ferland as Yuki. Her features are perfect for the role and she has experience playing spooky goth girls. Alex Pettyfer would be fabulous as Calvin “Cal” Miller. He has the dreamy blue eyes, shaggy hair, and perfect physique. Amanda Seyfried would make an amazing Emma. Amanda has the ideal combination of strength and grace and her pale skin and blond hair make her perfect for the role. Last, but not least, is my choice for Simon. I have to admit that I cast Misha Collins for the role of Simon long ago. I was captivated by Misha as Castiel in the TV show Supernatural and if you gave him a facial scar he’d make a wonderfully roguish Simon.

What is your favorite Quote?
May I select two?
“All that we see or seem is but a dream within a dream.”
-Edgar Allan Poe
“If I lose the light of the sun, I will write by candlelight, moonlight, no light. If I lose paper and ink, I will write in blood on forgotten walls. I will write always. I will capture nights all over the world and bring them to you”
-Henry Rollins

Can you see yourself in any of your characters?
Yuki was originally based on myself at her age, but the things she must face during this series push her to grow and develop her own personality. My love for Yuki may seem a bit egocentric, but I truly admire her strength and determination.

What’s the craziest writing idea you’ve had?
They’re actually all a bit crazy. LOL! A collection of paranormal poetry? Vampires who grant wishes? Smelling the Dead?
Seriously though, I think the crazies writing idea I had was back in elementary school. I wrote a short story about the melancholy life of the man who worked the assembly line at a bean factory placing the piece of greasy lard into each can of baked beans. See? Crazy, right?

Hidden talent?
Hmmm..I’m not sure if it qualifies as a talent, but I love to belly dance. I can often be found shimmying around the house.

If you were a bird, which one would you be?
If I were a a bird, I would be a crow. I’ve always had an affinity for crows.

If you were a super hero what would your kryptonite be?
Spiders. An arachnophobic paranormal author? Yes, that’s me. I’ve tried rationalizing my fear, but when I see a spider I run away screaming like a little girl.

Favorite places to travel?
I love traveling in Rome, London, and Dublin, and I vow to someday see the Spring cherry blossoms in Kyoto and to walk the streets of Prague.

Favorite music?
I listen to an eclectic mix of goth, industrial, EBM, electronica, techno, world music, folk, down tempo, and shoe gaze.

Any other books in the works? Goals for future projects?
Legend of Witchtrot Road, the third book in the Spirit Guide series, is due to release September 2011. Later this year I also have a middle-grade paranormal series, The Raven’s Gate Manor series, releasing. The first book in this series, Yes Annabelle: There Are Such Things As Vampires, is due to release in late 2011 and the second book, Annabelle In Fairland: A Midsummer Vacation’s Dream, will release in 2012.

How would you describe the target audience for your book? How would you classify your book (which genre)? What rating would you give your book? G, PG, PG-13, R Why?
The Spirit Guide series is a young adult paranormal series that appeals to all ages. Young adult, paranormal, supernatural mystery, paranormal romance. The Spirit Guide series is PG. There is some kissing.

She Smells the Dead (Spirit Guide, book 1) by E.J. Stevens.

It’s the beginning of senior year and Yuki’s psychic awareness of ghostly spirits is threatening to ruin her life. Her ability to sense spirits of the dead isn’t glamorous like the ghost hunting on television.

The smell impressions are becoming stronger. Yuki is being visited in her dreams, and she suspects that her friend Calvin is involved in something strange. To make matters worse her crush on Garrett is going unrequited, Yuki’s friend Emma is on a rampage against bee oppression, and annoying Calvin Miller mysteriously disappears.

Will Yuki be able to focus her powers in time to save the lost soul who is haunting her? Meanwhile, who will save Yuki from following the spirits into the light?

Spirit Storm (Spirit Guide, book 2) by E.J. Stevens

Let the spirits guide you, but never let them take you.

Spirits of the Dead are coming…

Yuki is about to face an army of lost souls on Samhain, the night of Halloween, when the spirits of the dead roam free. Yuki will need all the help she can get from her friends. But will Calvin be there for her when she needs him the most?
