Book Review: The Butt Book by Artie Bennett

Make way for the butt!
Tall butts, short butts, round butts, flat butts.
Butts on mummies and butts on mommies.
Butts on giraffes and elephants and dogs and… FISH?

Yes, even fish butts are celebrated in this tribute to backsides, rumps, tushies, keisters, heinies, and derrieres. Dozens of funny rhymes and pages of laugh-out-loud pictures pay homage to a body part that keeps kids and grown-ups giggling with glee.

I had a chance to review this book several months ago for another site and declined, I thought it would be crude or inappropriate. I grew up in a home where I wasn’t even allowed to use the term “butt”.  After reading a couple positive reviews and being approached by the author I agreed to at least read through this book.

This book ended up being much better than I expected.  It’s a rhyming book with silly illustrations.  Here’s a sample:

Some names for butt have foreign flair:
tuchas, keister, derriere!
In England where they call moms “mums,”
people call their buttocks bums.

Although I can’t say this is a picture book I would recommend to everyone, it will be a hit with many, especially boys ages 6-9.  It’s quite funny.
