Interview:

If you could jump in to a book, and live in that world.. which would it be?
I would LOVE to live in Harry Potter’s world. Minus the whole Voldemort thing. I’d be cool with wearing robes and cloaks, it looks so comfy. I want to go to Hogwarts and everything! I’m a bit old to be a student now though, maybe I could be a teacher.

What is your favorite quote?
I mak sikkar. It’s in old Scottish and the Kirkpatrick family motto. It means ‘I make sure’. The motto was earned because some Kirkpatricks killed someone on an altar of a church to ensure that their cousin, Robert the Bruce, became king. Despite its bloody history, I think it’s cool and a good motto to live by, not meaning I kill people, but I take care of business. I also have it tattooed on my upper back, just in case I forget…

What is your favorite thing to eat for breakfast?
That’s a phenomenal question. Breakfast is my favorite meal of the day, and sometimes happens more than once, especially when I’m on my own for dinner. Homemade waffles top the list, along with pancakes, followed by the classic bowl of cereal, or some donuts from a local bakery (in order of favorites, I don’t eat them all in one sitting!) Yum!

Night owl, or early bird?
Night owl. For sure. I hate the morning, and if I’m not working, I usually sleep until 8-9 (which is late for adults with young children). I have my daughter trained well, she’ll do the same. Unfortunately my job as a high school teacher requires me to get up at 5 AM. I have done this almost 11 years and it’s never gotten easier. If only they could start school a *little* bit later!

What is your favorite sport to watch on TV?
I would have to say football and basketball. I also like soccer, but I find football and basketball are the most fun to watch on TV. I follow the Chicago Bears the most when it comes to sports on TV.

Is there anything you need in order to write?
Life has been getting more and more distracting lately and I’m finding it harder to get work done at home. My daughter is almost 4 and I have 2 dogs as well, so there’s little in the way of quiet at my house. I’m lucky when my husband is around to run interference. I would say I need a place to work that’s free of the distractions of family and the internet (Facebook is the worst for me! I’m obsessed!). I don’t mind life going on around me, but it is easier to focus when it’s quiet or when listening to music. I find I can really get a ton done in less time if I can get rid of distractions!

Into the Shadows:
Paivi Anderson has it all: friends, a spot on the varsity basketball team, wonderful parents, and quite possibly, her first boyfriend. It was everything a freshman in high school could ask for. Her perfect life begins to crumble when she discovers her name on a list distributed by a power-hungry presidential candidate. How could anyone think of Paivi as an Enemy of the State? Could it be because of her special powers? No one was supposed to know about them, but the mysterious messages in her tater tots say otherwise. In INTO THE SHADOWS, Paivi quickly learns who her friends are and is forced into a reality she didn’t see coming.
