Author Interview & Book Giveaway: Crossed Out by Kim Baccellia

Welcome to author Kim Baccellia.

I grew up in Sacramento, California, the oldest of seven. I earned an elementary teaching degree from Brigham Young University. I’ve been a telemarketer, library helper at the university, assistant manager, sales clerk, tutor, and bilingual teacher. Now I’m a stay-at-home mom and writer.
I love to read and write! I am also a reviewer for  – Young Adults (& Kids!) Book Central.

If you could travel in a Time Machine would you go back to the past or into the future? After reading dystopias I think I’ll pass on the future! I’d love to travel back to the 17th century. France or England.

Is there anything you need in order to write? (ie Chocolate, quiet, music) I download different music depending on the theme and/or feel of the story I’m currently working on. For CROSSED OUT I listened to Linkin Park, Evanscence, Paramore, Brandon Flowers, and also 80s/90s classics to help when Stephanie is at the haunted coffee house with Mark.

Night owl, or early bird?
Totally an early bird. I can’t sleep in past 8am even if I try!

Pet Peeves?
I hate rudeness of any kind. I also can’t deal with people being cruel to animals. Another one is when it’s a nice day outside, people roll their windows down and let their cigarettes dangle outside. Very annoying and I can’t help but think of the Jerry Steinfeld episode where he asked, “You’d think they’d want to leave their windows up to savor the full effects of the nicotine.” I agree.

Skittles or M&Ms?
Totally M&Ms. I love the pretzel ones the best

Favorite Cartoon?
Speed Racer. When I was young I crushed big time on Speed.

How do you react to a bad review?
I try to find something from the review that might help me later on. At first though I put it aside for awhile and try not to dwell on it.

What is your dream cast for your book?
Here’s a post I did on that a while ago:
**At the time Dr. Anthony was Pastor Warner. Changed him but I still think this author would be fab.

What was your favorite book when you were a child/teen?
Favorite author had to be Judy Blume. Loved all of her books. I also loved reading THE OUTSIDERS which at the time was controversial. I also loved DON’T ASK ALICE.

Is there a song you could list as the theme song for your book or any of your characters?
What I’ve Done by Linkin Park
Cross Fire by Brandon Flowers for the sequel

What is your favorite quote?
Si, se puede…Cesar Chavez
Chavez is one of my heroes. I’m still bummed I turned down an opportunity to march with him back in the 90s.

If someone wrote a book about your life, what would the title be?
Ms. Persistent
She never took no for an answer

What is your guilty pleasure?
Reading trashy celeb magazines

How did you celebrate the sale of your first book?
Went out to dinner. Son told people sitting next to us about me signing contract for my book. They ended up coming over and congratulating me.
