#BIR2010 – Book Giveaway: Sleepless by Cyn Balog + Interview

Welcome to author Cyn Balog!

Cyn Balog is a normal, everyday Jersey Girl who always believed magical things can happen to us when we least expect them. She is author of young adult paranormals FAIRY TALE (2009), SLEEPLESS(2010), and two other forthcoming novels from Delacorte. She lives outside Allentown, Pennsylvania with her husband and daughters.

What is the last book you read?
The Scorch Trials by James Dashner. The series is so weird, but so good. I have no idea what’s going on but that makes it so compulsively readable. It’s like the book version of LOST.

What is the last movie you saw?
It was a Columbo TV movie. I am currently obsessed with Columbo. Does that make me a nerd? Probably. But I really can’t stand the TV cop shows of today… they all thrive on either sex or the gruesome. There is this prevailing thought in entertainment these days that nobody will pay attention if you don’t include something like a stripper who was murdered in some bizzare and grotesque way like being stuffed into a microwave. I love the shows which rely on the detecting, the solving of the mystery, instead of cheap gimmicks!

What is your favorite flavor of ice cream?
Chocolate Marshmallow. And if I can get one topping… toasted coconut.

What is your favorite thing to eat for breakfast?
I eat Banana Nut Crunch EVERY DAY, without fail. I go into withdrawal if I do not have it. I’m a Banana Nut Nut.

What do you do when you are in-between books?
Really…. think about the next book I am going to write!! I am obsessed!

You have won one million dollars what is the first thing that you would buy?
I would go to Seaside Park, NJ and buy my grandparents’ house at the beach back. I spent every summer there as I child and I have such fond memories of it! It was sold back when I was in high school. I saw it recently on the market for $750k. I would need the other $250k to fix it up, because it probably still has avocado appliances and shag carpeting.

How did you celebrate the sale of your first book?
I bought a swing set. Completely for me. Actually, that’s only part-true. There is a disc-swing on the end of it, and that IS just for me. I have been known to swing on it often, much to the amusement of my neighbors!

Finish the sentence- one book I wish I had written is….
THE HUNGER GAMES … because I am just like every writer out there, completely envious of Ms. Collins’ abilities.

Eron DeMarchelle isn’t supposed to feel this connection. He is a Sandman, a supernatural being whose purpose is to seduce his human charges to sleep. Though he can communicate with his charges in their dreams, he isn’t encouraged to do so. After all, becoming too involved in one human’s life could prevent him from helping others get their needed rest.

But he can’t deny that he feels something for Julia, a lonely girl with fiery red hair and sad dreams. Just weeks ago, her boyfriend died in a car accident, and Eron can tell that she feels more alone than ever. Eron was human once too, many years ago, and he remembers how it felt to lose the one he loved. In the past, Eron has broken rules to protect Julia, but now, when she seems to need him more than ever, he can’t reach her. Eron’s time as a Sandman is coming to a close, and his replacement doesn’t seem to care about his charges. Worse, Julia is facing dangers she doesn’t recognize, and Eron, as he transitions back to being human, may be the only one who can save her. . . .

Even once they’ve become human again, Sandmen are forbidden to communicate with their charges. But Eron knows he won’t be able to forget Julia. Will he risk everything for a chance to be with the girl he loves?

Cyn Balog’s follow-up to Fairy Tale has more wit, more supernatural delights, and more star-crossed romance! Teen girls will love this story of a Sandman who falls in love with his human charge.
