#BIR2010 – Book Giveaway: Shadow of the Sun by Laura Kreitzer + Interview

Welcome to Laura Kreitzer!
Laura Kreitzer is a published fiction author who hails from western Kentucky. Her full-time 9-5 job used to be working in a lab devoted to water dye-tracing investigations at Western Kentucky University, though her passion was always writing.

Interview:

If you could travel in a Time Machine would you go back to the past or into the future?
Leave the past in the past, I say! I’d love to travel into the future just for research on my newest series that is set 200 years in the future. J

If you could invite any 5 people to dinner who would you choose?
John, Paul, Ringo, George, and my friend who has passed away, Chris. And yes, the first four are the Beatles.

If you were stranded on a desert island what 3 things would you want with you?
Unlimited supply of water (since I’m not sure if you meant a desert island or a deserted . . . though I guess I’d want the water regardless—ignore me), an incredibly hot man who worships me, and all of my books.

What is one book everyone should read?
The Girls Who Went Away: The Hidden History of Women Who Surrendered Children for Adoption in the Decades Before Roe v. Wade by Ann Fessler
See what happens when we try to hide the truth from children and young adults! Let education and truth rule our society! SpeakLoudly.

If you were a superhero what would your name be?
iLola. (Really . . . don’t ask. Hehehehe)

If you could have any superpower what would you choose?
Immortality. Is that a superpower? Perhaps not. Okay: invisibility.

What is your favorite flavor of ice cream?
COFFEE. Did I shout that? Oops.

What is your favorite thing to eat for breakfast?
Yogurt, cheese, and a Red Bull. Yes, I’m an oddball.

What’s your favorite music genre? Favorite artist? Song?
Genre: alternative rock. Artist: The Beatles. Song: Burning Bright – Shinedown.

Is there anything you need in order to write? (ie Chocolate, quiet, music)
The magical blue pill of concentration, Red Bull, and usually Lucy the Muse.

Night owl or early bird?
I sleep during the day 95% of the time. It’s much quieter at night and no one is calling, texting, emailing, or talking to me. Love it!

If you could be one of the Greek Gods, which would it be, male or female, doesn’t matter and why?
Zeus! Dude . . . he has lightning bolts. Win! (And I hear he’s quite the whore, too.)

How do you react to a bad review?
Not everyone is going to like my novels, I understand. There are only three things I have come across that really made me go ??????? The weirdest one was someone complaining that the first chapter of book two wasn’t at the end book one. There was another that said Andrew was a “modern” name and didn’t exist 4k years ago—therefore it was a silly name to give someone that old (not that someone wouldn’t have changed their name or adapt it as time went on). I laughed out loud at that. Andrew’s a biblical name. Hehe. J And the last, and this is really the only one that upset me, was someone reviewed and rated without finishing—but that isn’t what upset me. It was the fact that someone convinced them to lower the star rating based on the review. Someone, who I might add, had never read my book. You can’t give a fair and honest review if you haven’t read the whole book. How can you suggest a rating when you haven’t read any of it? There are some I haven’t finished, but I don’t rate them because I can’t with good conscience.

If you could be a paranormal creature, what would you choose to be?
A vampire . . . that sparkles. Come on! That would be so awesome. Or a Siren.

Please tell us in one sentence only, why we should read your book.
Sexy Angels, love, a rich angelic history, and a fast-paced, action-packed story wrapped up in a nice bow I’d like to call perfect binding. J

If you were a super hero what would your kryptonite be?
God forbid it be Red Bull. Hmm, this is a tough one. My kryptonite would probably be airport security porno xrays and pat downs. (Yes, I am laughing!)

If someone wrote a book about your life, what would the title be?
“An Author’s Struggle with Somniphobia, One Blue Pill at a Time” (look that up)

What is your guilty pleasure?
Excessively buying books I know I won’t be able to read for another year because I already have so many. And rewatching Buffy a gabillion times.

What TV show/movie/book do you watch/read that you’d be embarrassed to admit?
I’m never embarrassed by who I am or what I do (and in this case watch and read). I’d say most people would be embarrassed by their love of Twilight. Not me. Sparkles ‘n all! I love it.

How did you celebrate the sale of your first book?
I drank three glasses of Three Blind Moose wine while sitting at the computer and chatting with Lucy the Muse online. (She sent the wine all the way from CA—I live in KY.) It was the perfect evening.

Kathy, thank you so much for asking such fun questions! That really was delightful.

Summary: Gabriella’s past is a mystery, but that never stopped her from achieving her goals. As a supernatural specialist, and far more intelligent than anyone her age, she has always been ignored by her peers. Because of the isolation she has always felt, she put her life and soul into her job. Being a supernatural specialist hasn’t given her the divine intervention she always longed for, until one day a shipment arrives from Italy containing three dead bodies with an uncanny ability to regenerate. Gabriella is frightened and intrigued, but not as scared as she becomes when a dark creature attacks her.
As the bodies come back to life, the plot takes an unexpected twist that you won’t see coming. The supernatural world only begins to unfold before her as angels appear, her dreams start to haunt her, and the very past she has forgotten comes back with startling clarity. Romance blooms, escape plans are made, an assassin is out to kill her, and death is only around the corner. But what is more terrifying than all of it is the fact she is the chosen one, the Illuminator, the one who will save them all.
