#BIR2010 – Book Giveaway Pegasus, Chalice & Sunshine by Robin McKinley + Interview

I’ve been a long time fan of author Robin McKinley.  Her book Beauty is one I’ve read multiple times and there are very few books I ever reread. I’m excited to have an interview with her and then a giveaway for 3 of her books.

If you were a superhero what would your name be?

If you could have any superpower what would you choose?
The ability to roll back time just long enough that you didn’t drop the toast butter-side-down, that you didn’t trip over the dog and break your arm, that you weren’t thinking about something else at just the wrong moment and tail-end that cop car.

When you were 12 years old what did you want to be when you grew up?
A veterinarian, although I was already uneasily aware that my science and maths weren’t going to be up to it.

What is your favorite thing to eat for breakfast?
A fresh-off-my-tree apple, which is possible only about a month or six weeks every year.

Is there anything you need in order to write? (ie Chocolate, quiet, music)
A story that has me by the throat (or possibly the notebook) and is DEMANDING to be told.

Night owl, or early bird?
Night owl. *Very* night owl. I not infrequently hear the dawn chorus from the wrong end. Sometimes to the extent that I find myself morphing into a very early bird and have to start over.

If you were a super hero what would your kryptonite be?
Any of those perfect people whose hair is always combed and who always say the right thing and who never drop their toast, so it never has the chance to fall butter-side-down.

What do you do in your free time?
::Helpless laughter:: Read my blog! http://robinmckinleysblog.com/

If someone wrote a book about your life, what would the title be?
There Must Have Been an Easier Way.

How did you celebrate the sale of your first book?
With a walk around the town I lived in at that time, staring dazedly at all the familiar sights that were now, suddenly, new and different and unfamiliar, because *I* was that new, different, unfamiliar thing, a professional writer.

Because of a thousand-year-old alliance between humans and pagasi, Princess Sylviianel is ceremonially bound to Ebon, her own Pegasus, on her twelfth birthday. The two species coexist peacefully, despite the language barriers separating them. Humans and pegasi both rely on specially-trained Speaker magicians as the only means of real communication.

But its different for Sylvi and Ebon. They can understand each other. They quickly grow close-so close that their bond becomes a threat to the status quo-and possibly to the future safety of their two nations.

New York Times bestselling Robin McKinley weaves an unforgettable tale of unbreakable friendship, mythical creatures and courtly drama destined to become a classic

As the newly appointed Chalice, Mirasol is the most important member of the Master’s Circle. It is her duty to bind the Circle, the land and its people together with their new Master. But the new Master of Willowlands is a Priest of Fire, only drawn back into the human world by the sudden death of his brother. No one knows if it is even possible for him to live amongst his people. Mirasol wants the Master to have his chance, but her only training is as a beekeeper. How can she help settle their demesne during these troubled times and bind it to a Priest of Fire, the touch of whose hand can burn human flesh to the bone?

Robin McKinley weaves a captivating tale that reveals the healing power of duty and honor, love and honey.

They took her clothes and sneakers. They dressed her in a long red gown. And they shackled her to the wall of an abandoned mansion-within easy reach of a figure stirring in the moonlight.

She knows that it is a vampire.

She knows that she’s to be his dinner, and that when he is finished with her, she will be dead. Yet, when light breaks, she finds that he has not attempted to harm her. And now it is he who needs her to help him survive the day…
