#BIR2010 – Book Giveaway: Harmonic Feedback by Tara Kelly + Interview

Welcome to Author Tara Kelly:
Tara Kelly adores variety in her life. She’s a YA author, one-girl-band, web designer, video editor, digital photographer, and literary agent intern. She lives in Portland with her ten guitars, supercool bf, and a fluffy cat named Maestro. Tara’s debut novel Harmonic Feedback was released on May 25, 2010.

If you were stranded on a desert island what 3 things would you want with you?
A notebook, a pen, and my favorite acoustic. I’d say my iPod and laptop, but batteries only last so long. And I’m assuming there is no power on this island?

What is one book everyone should read?
Ballads of Suburbia by Stephanie Kuehnert–not enough people have read this book. And it’s sooooo good, especially if you were or ARE an artist or outcast.

If you were a superhero what would your name be?
Miss Volatile (actually this is my band’s name)

If you could have any superpower what would you choose?
I could snap my fingers and be anywhere I wanted to be. Instant teleportation, man–always a dream of mine.

What is your favorite flavor of ice cream?
Does rainbow sherbet count? If not, Neapolitan is a very close second.

What is your favorite thing to eat for breakfast?
Brownie caramel Luna bars. They’re yummy, packed with vitamins (to detract from all the sugar ahem), and best of all–QUICK!

Is there anything you need in order to write? (ie Chocolate, quiet, music)
Music, for sure. Can’t get into my characters heads without it.

Is there a song you could list as the theme song for your book or any of your characters?
Only one? That’s tough. For Harmonic Feedback I’d say “Giving In” by Saltillo

What is your favorite quote?
This changes frequently, but here’s my current favorite. “How wrong is it for a woman to expect the man to build the world she wants, rather than create it herself.” ~Anais Nin

If you were a super hero what would your kryptonite be?

If someone wrote a book about your life, what would the title be?
Diary of a Genius…(j/k) Probably something like….The Ethical Rebel. Or…yeah, I suck at titles. But I like the question!

What is your guilty pleasure?
Carrots dipped in vanilla ice cream.

What TV show/movie/book do you watch/read that you’d be embarrassed to admit?
*whispers* America’s Next Top Model

Harmonic Feedback:
Sixteen-year-old, music- and sound design-obsessed Drea doesn’t have friends. She has, as she’s often reminded, issues. Drea’s mom and a rotating band of psychiatrists have settled on “a touch of Asperger’s.”

Having just moved to the latest in a string of new towns, Drea meets two other outsiders. And Naomi and Justin seem to actually like Drea. The three of them form a band after an impromptu, Portishead-comparison-worthy jam after school. Justin swiftly challenges not only Drea’s preference for Poe over Black Lab but also her perceived inability to connect with another person. Justin, against all odds, may even like like Drea.

It’s obvious that Drea can’t hide behind her sound equipment anymore. But just when she’s found not one but two true friends, can she stand to lose one of them?
