#BIR2010 – Book Giveaway: Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins + Interview

Stephanie Perkins highly anticipated debut novel Anna and the French Kiss was released just last week.

Interview:

If you could travel in a Time Machine would you go back to the past or into the future? Why?

Oh, how terrifying. I’m not sure I’d want to do either! I suppose the future, simply because I’m curious. (And women weren’t treated so well in the past. And then there’s that whole indoor plumbing thing.)

But can you imagine discovering that the future is awful? Would you then feel compelled to try to change it when you returned? Imagine the pressure! I’m not sure I’m up for that kind of responsibility.

I’d better stay away from time machines.

If you could invite any 5 people to dinner who would you choose?

I’d want a table filled with *weird* people, with good stories to tell. I want to LAUGH, not discuss philosophy! This year, I’m harboring an obsession with cult filmmaker and awesome mustache-haver John Waters, so he’s a must-invite. I’m a huge fan of essayist David Sedaris — the funniest writer alive, as far as I’m concerned — so I’d love to have him there. Jack White would surely be interesting. Meg Cabot, because I worship at her altar. And perhaps Neil Gaiman, because he has the world’s best storytelling voice. I could listen to him talk all night.

If you were stranded on a desert island what 3 things would you want with you?

Books, books, books!

(Oh. Wait.)

Books, food, water.

What is one book everyone should read?

Another toughie! If “everyone” = “people like me,” I’d say Francesca Lia Block’s quirky magic cool beautiful landmark young adult novel WEETZIE BAT. If “everyone” = “everyone,” then I’d have to say something responsible like THE AUTOBIOGRAPHY OF MALCOLM X. Or even Eric Schlosser’s FAST FOOD NATION. Those are life-changers.

If someone wrote a book about your life, what would the title be?
