Interview & Giveaway: Cindy C. Bennett Author of Geek Girl

Welcome to Cindy Bennett author of Geek Girl. Cindy has agreed to answer a few questions and then has a great giveaway!

About Cindy:

Cindy Bennett was born and raised in beautiful Salt Lake City, growing up in the shadows of the majestic Rocky Mountains. She lives with her husband, 2 daughters, and 2 dogs. She’s always loved to write, mostly since high school when a teacher forced his English classes to do creative writing each day for 10 minutes. “He opened up a whole new world to me, and I will forever be grateful, Mr. Bickmore.” She volunteers much of her time working with teen girls between the ages of 12-18, all of whom she finds to be fascinating creatures. When she’s not writing, reading, answering emails or hanging with her family, she can ofttimes be found riding her Harley through the beautiful canyons near her home.

Interview:

What is the last book you read?
“Beastly” by Alex Finn. Fantastic update of a classic fairy tale.

Night owl, or early bird?
Night owl, absolutely. 10pm-2am is my most creative time of day, when I get the most writing done – probably because I’m the only one up!

If you could travel in a Time Machine would you go back to the past or into the future?
Definitely into the future. The past is done, and who knows what harm we could do by trying to change something? But the future is an exciting, uncharted territory that would be amazing to see. I’d be most excited to see where technology takes us.

If you could have any superpower what would you choose?
I would like the superpower of unending energy, never needing to sleep. What mom wouldn’t love that?

How many books do you read a week/month?
I probably read 5-6 books a month, from every genre. Of course, my heart belongs to YA, but I enjoy all types of books. If it’s good, I’ll read it. Sometimes, I read it even if it’s not so good! 🙂

If you were stranded on a desert island what 3 things would you want with you?
If you’re talking things and not people (my family would be top on my list) then: 1) My laptop, of course, with a satellite battery and internet access, 2) an unending supply of bug spray/killer to deal with disgustingly creepy-crawly things, and 3) a cook.

What’s your favorite music genre? Favorite artist? Song?
I don’t have a particular favorite as far as genre. I listen to everything from pop to rock to country to opera to oldies…plus much more. The only things I really don’t listen to are big band music, blues, or hip-hop/rap. Favorite song is easy: “Take My Breath Away” by Berlin. Fantastically romantic song!

If you could meet one person who has died who would you choose?
Gordon B Hinckley, last president of the LDS church. What a funny, compassionate, sweet, amazing man he was. Who doesn’t want to hang out with someone like that?

GEEK GIRL by Cindy C. Bennett

“Think I can turn that boy bad?”

High school junior Jen inadvertently turns her life upside down when, out of boredom, she makes a bet that she can turn school geek-Trevor into a someone bad, someone like her. His complete opposite in every way, the sarcastic goth-girl tries pulling him into her world of partying. Instead she finds herself sucked into Trevor’s world of sci-fi movies, charity work and even – ugh! – bowling.

If that weren’t bad enough, she desperately wants to become a permanent part of the foster family she currently lives with, even if it means having a cheerleader for a sister. What’s up with that?

But Jen must come to terms with her past, including her now-dead abusive father and her imprisoned mother. Jen’s journey will lead her to discover the true meaning of friendship. family, forgiveness, and above all, love.
