Interview and Giveaway with Author Mary-Anne Grosse Ivie

Mary-Anne Grosse Ivie was born in Singapore, the second youngest of five children.

Mary-Anne’s childhood dream was to one day be an author and her teen years were filled with writing stories (which her cousins read) and creating her own monthly magazines with a typewriter, typing paper, coloured pencils, pictures cut out from magazines, glue and a stapler. All very amateurish, of course, but the interest was definitely there.

Now that she and her husband live in a small wooded community in Northern California, nature itself is sometimes inspiration enough. They share their home with two dogs who know how to love and protect and a very independent cat who just wants to be friends with the dogs.

There is a hint of truth in each of her stories. The Fairy Folk and She is her first book, a story for the young and young at heart. It was a delight to write as there were all these characters — and their voices — inside her head. And to find out more about them, she had to tell their story.

Mary-Anne has graciously agreed to do an interview and book giveaway for the followers of this blog.

Interview:

What is the last book you read?
Sophia House by Michael O’Brien. My husband and I recently discovered his books. I’m now in the middle of reading another of his books, Father Elijah.

What is the last movie you saw?
Crime and Punishment based on the Dostoyevsky book. It was on television the other day. It was very moving and disturbing and true all at once. Made me want to read the book so now I have it on my to-read list!

When you were 12 years old what did you want to be when you grew up?
An author. Or a baker.

What is your favorite flavor of ice cream?
It’s a toss-up between chocolate chip and coffee.

Which fictional character would you most like to meet?

Atticus Finch, as portrayed by Gregory Peck!

How many books do you read a week/month?
Hard to say. It depends on the book, whether it pulls me in and how tired I am.

What’s your favorite music genre? Favorite artist? Song?
Queen used to be my all-time favourite band. I went absolutely crazy over them after hearing “Love of My Life” from their Live Killers album. But I’m also especially partial to Tony Bennett’s Stranger in Paradise. Whenever that song comes on over the radio, I just have to stop everything and listen to it.

One food you would never eat?
Brussel sprouts.
